20 Years of Discovery

R & Company is celebrating two decades of pioneering design with a new location in TriBeCa and an iconic show commemorating the numerous artists and designers it represents. The inaugural exhibition, 20 Years of Discovery, reflects on R & Company’s contributions to the design world since its opening twenty years ago. On view is an ambitious presentation of works the gallery has championed since its inception, including iconic historical pieces, rare and unique objects, and new contemporary commissions made specifically for the occasion. The exhibition will also coincide with the release of an extensive publication, R & Company 20 Years of Discovery, published by Damiani with contributing essays by Glenn Adamson, Dung Ngo, Dan Rubinstein, Evan Snyderman, Pilar Viladis, and James Zemaitis.

20 Years of Discovery highlights four main movements that the gallery has developed over the last twenty years: Brazilian Modern Design, Postwar American Design, Contemporary Design, and what the gallery categorizes as “Difficult” Design. The exhibition promotes distinguished designers from these movements whose work is among the most innovative and exquisitely crafted of their time. By presenting 20 Years of Discovery in the new gallery space, R & Company continues its tireless exploration of design and begins a new chapter of engagement with our audience, known and unknown.

Founded in 1997, R & Company originally opened in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, when owners Zesty Meyers and Evan Snyderman realized their combined passion to discover and preserve twentieth- and twenty-first-century design. Since moving to its current location in TriBeCa, in 2000, the gallery has presented numerous visionary exhibitions and publications on its contemporary and historical designers, and placed significant works in museum collections around the world. Through passion, research, and collecting, R & Company continues to champion collectible design and to advance the contemporary marketplace.
