Organic Impulse in Contemporary Sculpture, Art and Design
26 May - 31 July 2017
JEFF LINCOLN ART + DESIGN | 200 North Sea Road, Southampton, NY
Jeff Lincoln Art + Design will debut The Organic Impulse in Contemporary Sculpture, Art and Design Memorial Day weekend at the gallery’s Old Power Station location in Southampton and will run through July. “This wide ranging show will examine the powerful influence nature and organic structures have on artists and designers and how it is revealed in their work. Cutting across multiple mediums and disciplines, the impulse of the organic sensibility informs the work of various artists included in the show, notably among them Yayoi Kusama, Carl Andre and Al Held, and Per Kirkeby,” says gallery owner Jeff Lincoln.
Co-curated with Evan Snyderman of R & Company, the design component of the show seeks to inform the viewer on the dynamic relationships between art and design as explored through an organic sensibility as expressed in historical and contemporary design. Important design from a wide variety of designers will be exhibited. Seminal Brazilian mid-century designers from Sergio Rodrigues to Joaquim Tenreiro will be shown with exciting new work from LA’s dynamic duo the Haas Brothers, to the highly unique design expressions of South African Designer Porky Hefer and the sculpturally inventive and sensual work of Rogan Gregory. New lighting by glass artist Jeff Zimmerman and the continually relevant designer Wendell Castle will provide further examples of the organic impulse at play in the minds of these disparate artists.
Rounding out the show, ceramic artist Peter Lane will exhibit a unique presentation of his large scale ceramic abstractions, consisting of large wall treatments composed of sculptural ceramic elements as well as unique individual pieces — yet a further expression of an organic sensibility in contemporary design. Lastly, the gallery will exhibit new work by emerging designer Yolande Batteau, whose work engages the organic 18th century Japanese technique of Yakisugi in a contemporary and engaging manner.
