Expanding upon a decade-long friendship, design gallery R & Company and Cultured magazine are proud to present their first collaborative curatorial initiative Full House, an in person exhibition of collectible design opening December 1st in Miami’s Design District.
Full House has been organized as a group show that creates an opportunity for interdisciplinary co-mingling and collective discovery, further contextualized by recent pop up presentations by leading voices in art and design. “We were so thrilled by the opportunity to build upon our long history with R & Company and for the opportunity to showcase so many of the designers and artists we have championed over the last five years beyond our pages,” Cultured Editor-in-Chief Sarah Harrelson says. “It is exciting to build upon Cultured’s legacy and to expand to new channels and ways of connecting our readership with today’s most exciting talent.”
As incubators for groundbreaking design, R & Company and Cultured complement each other’s strengths. The former provides a curatorial home for artists, while the latter works to amplify their voices and shape the cultural narrative as a local and national bellwether. The impetus for Full House stemmed from a discussion between R & Company and Cultured leadership about the power of collaboration as a tool for change. The gallery and magazine realized they could better address the immediate needs of the art and design fields by partnering on a joint platform that would offer artists financial support and a chance to engage directly with the art and design community. They also realized that it was only through this partnership that they could adequately give back to Miami, a city whose history of cultural cross-pollination has made it a global destination. “We recognize that the loyalty and investment of the local community towards both Cultured and R & Company has made what we do possible. We want to return the support by making ourselves physically available, and, while we hope that tourists will join us virtually through the pop-up’s digital activations, this show is really a love note to Miami,” says Zesty Meyers, Principal at R & Company.
The works included in the pop-up exhibition will be tailored to the local audience and will feature favorites like The Haas Brothers and Katie Stout, alongside toys by Renate Müller, sculptural objects by Serban Ionescu and Ashley Hicks, ceramics by Stephanie H. Shih, rugs by Travis Boyer, plushies by SK Lyons, lamps by Andy Harman, and more… It really is a full house.
Miami Design District COVID protocols and CDC guidelines will be enforced. Mask-wearing will be mandatory, and the number of guests will be limited to ensure social distancing. Those visiting are encouraged to make appointments, while those unable to come in person can visit Cultured magazine’s Instagram profile on December 1st for remote purchasing information.
