Four Rooms

April 25–August 9, 2024

64 White Street

Four Rooms invites visitors to immerse themselves in four distinct living environments, each centered around a single door serving as both a gateway into the space and a work of art in its own regard. Doors, typically overlooked in design, often serve as the initial aesthetic cue, providing unique opportunities to influence the ambiance, mood, and circulation of a room. Across history, designers have explored the form and decorative potential of doors, panels, and screens. Four Rooms showcases four captivating environments, featuring the works of Wendell Castle, Jose Zanine Caldas, Rogan Gregory, and Joaquim Tenreiro, spanning both historical and contemporary contexts.

The exhibition also includes artworks by Roberto Matta, Thomas Nozkowski, and Richard Pousette-Dart, presented through a collaboration with Pace Gallery, that further complement and complete the living environments, establishing a dialogue between the fine art and design works.
