Design Miami/

6-10 December 2017

R & Company is pleased to announce its participation in the 2017 edition of Design Miami/ with a curated presentation of rare historical masterworks alongside pioneering contemporary designs.

An important focus of the booth is dedicated to showcasing the Mesa Parker dining table and chairs, a unique set designed by Sergio Rodrigues in 1978. On view for the first time ever, this set was designed as a custom commission for the Parker family in Rio de Janeiro and is featured in the 2016 catalogue Brazil Modern: The Rediscovery of Twentieth Century Brazilian Furniture. Made out of solid pine (pinho de riga), an exotic and precious Brazilian wood, the dining suite exhibits Rodrigues’ sensitivity to form, proportion, and craftsmanship. This one of a kind piece was at the center of the Parker family home for many years and regarded as the symbol of their family life. It remained as one of Rodrigues’ favorite designs throughout his prolific career. The Mesa Parker suite is presented at Design Miami/ alongside a unique illuminated sculpture designed and hand-blown by contemporary glass master Jeff Zimmerman.

Also on view is a focused presentation of new works by The Haas Brothers, including a masterwork door titled Door Than This. This unique piece is made out of black walnut and took over a year to complete, beginning with large hand-sculpted clay models and then finished by expert hand carving. The door’s design draws inspiration from The Beatles songs “I Am the Walrus” and “Octopus’s Garden” and delves into the dichotomies of light and dark, humor and introspection. Installed in the center of the booth, the door opens up to a space dedicated to all new Haas Brothers’ works including their celebrated AccretionsMini Beasts and the launch of a new series of Micro Beasts and innovative ceramic and glass works titled Fairy Berries.

The booth also presents a selection of Brazilian historical works by Joaquim Tenreiro and elegant new pieces by French interior designer Pierre Yovanovitch. Also on view are iconic Italian Radical works from the 1960-70’s and a selection of playful new pieces by emerging designer Katie Stout. Together, these works at Design Miami/ demonstrate R & Company’s mission to promote visionary historical and contemporary design.
