José Zanine Caldas, Brazil
Hand-carved rectangular lidded chest sculpted in solid wood. Designed by José Zanine Caldas and manufactured by his workshop, Brazil.
...
Zanine created his work with the assistance of canoe makers from the Northeast of Brazil using traditional tools, almost as if letting nature speak for itself. During this period, he had an office in Rio and a workshop in Nova Viçosa, Bahia. This chest was made by carving and hollowing a single block of wood.
